What is a hermetic door?

A hermetic door is an airtight door that seals an operating room every time it closes, so the pressure inside holds. Air Lock doors come sliding or swing, in three seal grades, and can be lined with lead for hybrid ORs.

  • 3 Seal grades: hermetic, airtight and semi-airtight
  • 75Pa Air leakage test pressure, with air pushed in and drawn out
  • Thai-made Air Lock doors are made in Thailand

How it seals

How a hermetic door holds the room's pressure

When the door closes, its edge presses into a soft seal along the frame. That closes the gap that air would otherwise leak through, so the room keeps its pressure.

Thai standard

What the standard asks of an operating room door

Thailand's standard for operating rooms covers the door as well as the room. It has to be wide enough for a bed, open without a hand, and seal tightly enough to hold the room's pressure.

What is a hermetic door?

A hermetic door is an airtight door that closes against a seal, so air can't leak around it. Hospitals use hermetic doors on operating rooms and other clean rooms, where the room has to hold its air pressure.

What is the difference between hermetic, airtight and semi-airtight doors?

All three close against a seal. They differ in how tightly they hold, so the right one depends on the pressure the room has to keep. Our automatic Airtight sliding door was tested by Kaskal Façade Testing Centre in February 2021: at 75 Pa, air leakage was 1.31 m³/h per m² of door with air pushed in and 7.15 m³/h per m² with air drawn out.

How wide should an operating room door be?

Thailand's standard asks for an opening of at least 1.5 m. Staff must be able to open it with an arm or the body, and the door needs a vision panel.

Should I choose a sliding or a swing door?

Sliding doors save floor space. Swing doors need room to open but no track. Air Lock doors come in single sliding, double sliding and swing.

How was the Air Lock door tested?

An automatic airtight sliding door was tested to ASTM E283-04 for air leakage at 75 Pa, with air pushed in and drawn out, by Kaskal Façade Testing Centre. The report is KKFTC-TEST-001-21, dated 12 February 2021. See our certificates.

Can a hermetic door be lined with lead?

Yes. For a hybrid OR, Air Lock doors can be lined with lead and fitted with lead glass, so the same door seals the room and shields it.

How much does a hermetic door cost?

Ask us for a price. It depends on size, seal grade, opening type and any lead lining. Send us the opening size and we will quote it.
