What is a lead apron?

A lead apron is a garment lined with lead that shields the wearer from X-rays. More lead protects more, but weighs more. Ours are made in Thailand, with cross straps that support the back.

  • 0.5mm Lead equivalence at the top of the range, with lighter options
  • S–XXL Five sizes, around 60 × 100 cm for a standard apron
  • OEM Aprons made under your own brand, on request

Inside the apron

What is inside a lead apron

A lead apron has three layers. The core does the shielding, and the fabric around it protects that core from the creases and tears that weaken it.

Care

How to check a lead apron

Aprons wear out with use. A 2022 check by Thailand's Department of Medical Sciences looked at 32 aprons in hospitals. Check yours by eye and hand, and X-ray them to find damage that doesn't show.

Questions

Lead apron questions

Last updated 2 November 2026

How much lead should an apron have?

Our aprons go up to 0.5 mm lead equivalence, with lighter options. More lead protects more but weighs more, so the right apron balances the two for the work in the room.

What sizes do lead aprons come in?

S, M, L, XL and XXL. A standard apron is around 60 × 100 cm.

How do I check a lead apron?

Look for creases and tears, feel along the apron by hand, and X-ray it to find damage that doesn't show. Thailand's Department of Medical Sciences used these checks, with a test of how much radiation the apron stops, in a 2022 hospital study.

Why do the straps cross at the waist?

Crossed straps support the back and fit every build.

Can you make lead aprons under our own brand?

Yes. We make OEM aprons under your own name.

What fabrics can I choose?

Plain colours or patterns. New patterns come in every month, so ask for the latest when you order.

How much does a lead apron cost?

Ask us for a price. It depends on the lead equivalence, the size and the quantity. Tell us how many you need and we will quote it.
