Lead Glass for X-ray Rooms

Lead glass windows from 2 to 50 mm lead equivalent, cut to size and installed between X-ray rooms and their control rooms across Thailand.

What is lead glass?

Lead glass is clear glass that blocks X-rays, so the team can watch the patient from behind the shielding. Hospital Renovation cuts it to size, in three makes, and fits it into the frame.

  • 2–50mm Lead equivalence we can supply, for 80 to 500 kV
  • 11 Standard window sizes, from 20 × 20 to 100 × 240 cm
  • 3 Glass makes: standard, Perfect X-ray and Corning Med-X

How it fits

How a lead glass window goes together

The glass is only part of the job. The frame has to overlap the lead in the wall, so radiation can't pass around the edge of the pane.

The right glass depends on the machine. Corning Med-X is chosen by the kV of the machine in the room.

Thai standard

What the standard asks of a viewing window

Thailand's Ministry of Public Health design manual covers the window between the X-ray room and its control area: how big it is, how much it shields and how it meets the wall.

Questions

Lead glass questions

Last updated 2 November 2026

What does lead equivalent mean?

Lead equivalent says how much plain lead a piece of glass matches at stopping X-rays. Glass rated at 2.27 mm lead equivalent stops as much as a 2.27 mm lead sheet, even though the glass itself is 10 mm thick.

How much lead equivalent does a viewing window need?

Thailand's Ministry of Public Health design manual gives 1.5 to 2 mm lead equivalent for a window in an X-ray room. Stronger machines need more, so it is worked out for the machine. We supply 2 to 50 mm, for 80 to 500 kV.

What sizes does lead glass come in?

We keep 11 standard window sizes from 20 × 20 to 100 × 240 cm, and cut other sizes to order.

Which lead glass should I choose?

Our standard glass is 10 mm thick at 2.27 mm lead equivalent. Perfect X-ray from Germany is thinner, at 8 mm for 2.3 mm. Corning Med-X from the USA runs from 1 to 6 mm across 4 to 20 mm of glass, depending on the kV of the machine.

Can lead glass go into a door?

Yes. Vision panels in shielding doors and lead-lined hermetic doors use lead glass, so the panel shields as well as the door around it.

How big should the window in an X-ray control room be?

The design manual gives at least 30 × 30 cm, or 45 × 45 cm, and its edges must leave no gap for radiation.

How much does lead glass cost?

Ask us for a price. It depends on the size, the make and the lead equivalent. Send us the window size and the machine and we will quote it.
